Happy Housewarming!

By Bryce • Dec 18th, 2009 • Category: HOME AND REAL ESTATE, Kitchen

I’m always getting invited to a ton of housewarming parties, and I’m usually not quite sure what to bring. I end up picking up soaps or a bottle of wine last minute because I figure what the hell, everyone loves wine and most people like to be clean. All that’s changed though, because I’m stocking up on the one perfect gift that suits just about EVERY home and is under $10. Spike Your Juice.

This kit contains a magical bottle stopper, plus 6 packets of alcohol-creating yeast to make almost any 64 ounce bottle of juice into a mildly drunken bottle of fizzy goodness. The only juice that the makers discourage at-home-vintners from using is orange, which is just fine by me, because there’s a whole world of other juices just waiting to be fermented as far as I’m concerned. Try it with a bottle of organic apple juice for a sparkling organic apple cider, or get creative with a bottle of Trader Joe’s blueberry pomegranate blend… how good would that be beside waffles for brunch?

Each packet of yeast turns a 64 ounce bottle of juice into a 10-14% alcoholic beverage in just 2-3 days. It’s a great gift if you’re invited to someone’s house for a weekend too! Show up on Friday with a bottle of cranberry juice, mix the packet in, seal it with the special stopper, and by Sunday night you’re sipping a homemade cranberry sparkler at dinner.
